Air stripping, breakpoint chlorination, or biological nitrification-denitrification can be selected based on flow and concentration profile. No single route is optimal for all plants.

For recycle systems, maintain tight pH and ORP control to prevent process drift. Instrumentation quality has direct impact on chemical consumption and outlet consistency.

Combine nitrogen treatment with salt management planning when final zero-discharge targets apply. Ignoring salt balance early can negate gains from ammonia control.

A staged implementation with pilot validation and operator training improves reliability and reduces commissioning risk.
