CETP Upgrade Strategy for High-TDS Member Units

Why this topic matters on the plant floor

CETP upgrades are difficult because member units do not contribute the same load every day. A few high-TDS streams can define the size and cost of the entire common treatment system.

The upgrade should begin with member-wise profiling. Flow, TDS, COD, color, pH, and shock-load history help identify streams that need segregation or pre-treatment before entering the common line.

Equalization capacity must be reviewed honestly. If a cluster receives batch discharges, the CETP needs enough buffer and mixing to prevent biological and membrane systems from seeing sudden spikes.

High-TDS streams should be routed through a separate recovery or concentration path wherever practical. Treating all water as one mixed stream usually raises CAPEX for every member.

The best upgrade plan gives operators enforceable inlet limits, online monitoring, member feedback, and escalation rules. Technology works better when commercial accountability is built into the system.
